Tony Cottee has attempted to explain why a section of fans are responding in fiery fashion to what’s going on at the club.

And he said: “I don’t think they know who they want. There is so much frustration at the football club.

“What you have got to understand from a West Ham fans point of view is they have left their spiritual home at The Boleyn, I know that’s been and gone and it was 18 months ago.

But West Ham fans reluctantly accepted that on the basis that they would be going to the London Stadium which was going to make West Ham a team that was going to try and compete to get into Europe.

“What we have found is the manager [Slaven Bilic] has been undermined, the players have lost confidence, the run of results has been poor, they played the first three games [of the season] away from home – so much has gone wrong.

“The fans are so frustrated. I think whoever you put in as manager at West Ham, the fans will be moaning at the moment because we are all so, so frustrated at what is going on at the football club at the moment.

“They haven’t won anything for 37 years, 37 years for West Ham. Swansea have won since then, Stoke, Leicester, Wigan, why can’t West Ham win something? That’s the frustration.
