Tony Cottee has backed Gianluca Scamacca to score 20 goals a season for the Irons.

The striker joined from Sassuolo in a deal worth over £30m in the summer, and he has recently started to hit the goal trail.

Scamacca scored in back-to-back Premier League games, against Wolves and Fulham, and was also on the scoresheet against Anderlecht in the Europa Conference League last week.

It shows that the Italy international is nearing his peak in terms of fitness, and it also seems to show that he has adapted to life in England.

That is a gradual process, of course, and there will be missteps along the way but Cottee has been impressed with what he has seen so far.

Indeed, he has even backed Scamacca to score 20 goals a season for the club, as he continues to compete with Mikey Antonio for the starting spot.

Speaking to The West Ham Way, Cottee said: “I’d like to think he can get us 20 goals a season. I’m genuinely excited from what I have seen so far. To play up front for Italy you’ve got to be a good player.

“Already technically, when you look at how he strikes the ball, he does look like a really, really good prospect.”
