Tony Cottee has warned Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia they aren’t the new  ‘TC/McAvennie’ …YET!

Writing in his London 24 weekly column he said: “Some people have likened Sakho and Valencia to myself and Frank McAvennie, but it is important not to get carried away. There is only nine games gone so far and anything can happen.

They have done superbly so far, but me and Frank scored over 50 goals between us in 1985/86, so let us judge them at the end of the season.”

Cottee added: We are sitting in fourth place, but it is vital to keep our feet on the ground and just enjoy it while it lasts.

There are at least seven teams in the Premier League with bigger budgets than us and I still think that finishing in the top 10 will be a remarkable achievement.

Having said that, though, looking at the run of games leading up to the Chelsea match on Boxing Day, I have to say that, aside from the trip to Everton, they are all games where we should be looking to pick up points.”
