It has has always been believed that money talks in the Premier League, your turnover, your wage bill, the size of your stadium, your ticket income, your retail income and your global brand and fan base dictate the pecking of the top four in the Premier League.

Last night, Leicester City changed all that and proved everybody wrong. We could be at the start of a new world order in Premier League football.

Leicester had a turnover of £104.4m in 2015 compared to £120.7m for West Ham in the same period. The Foxes spent £57.4m on wages compared to the Hammers’ £63.9m last year. Their average gate for King Power Stadium was 31,693 with a stadium capacity 32,262 while the Irons averaged 34,871 from the Boleyn’s 35,000 capacity. Leicester earned just £10.65m from ticket sales while West Ham earned over double that.

Despite being financial inferior in almost every category, Leicester City did the unthinkable, the unbelievable and won the Premier League this season.

Yes they have rich Thai owners but Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha with his £1.9 billion of wealth compares to David Gold and Sullivan’s £1.3 billion of combined assets. What is £600m between friends?

It appears that financial might is no longer an impediment to the top four and we could see West Ham win a Premier League title in our life time.

West Ham co-chairman, David Gold tweeted: “Congratulations to Leicester City for winning the Premier League against all the odds, magnificent well done. West Ham next year. dg”
