No sooner has an international break than the ‘Andy Carroll for England” bandwagon starts to roll.

This time it’s Aaron Cresswell leading the charge by declaring that “of course he can” bag a 2018 World Cup spot.

The same argument is presented every time – that the big man offers a different way of playing although we still have to see it to real effect.

However, Cresswell seems convinced he’s in with a shout explaining: “Of course he can (make it to the Finals). Everyone knows what Andy is capable of, especially in the air, and you could say it’s a different dimension and that different way of playing.

“If Andy stays fit between now and the end of the season, there is no reason why he can’t be in contention.

“Everyone wants to be pushing for that World Cup spot and all you can do it keep playing your best week in, week out and hope to make that plane.”
