West Ham joint-chairman David Gold has given his verdict on West Ham’s opening day 5-0 defeat against the reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.

The chairman told his 196,000 followers on Twitter  “Disappointing result but we must remain positive and go again against Brighton with belief. dg”

Most West Ham supporters including Gold probalby expected a loss to a dominant team on Saturday lunchtime as we haven’t beaten for four years however we  all seceretly hoped that the scoreline wasn’t so large.

This is where Manuel Pellegrini differs to previous managers like Sam Allardyce who would have parked the bus for damage limitation.  Instead, Pellegrini tells his teams to go for it even when 3-0 down and results like yesterday are the consequence of that brave strategy. The scoreline was not a fair reflection of how the Hammers played in the first 25 minutes when they were the early dominant team.  West Ham are bottom of the Premier League table on a goal difference of minus five.

The trip to the South coast won’t be an easy one as Brighton won 3-0 away from home on their opening game putting them third in the table and full of confidence for their first home game.
