Dawson: There’s hope he will stay

Craig Dawson could be convinced to stay at West Ham in January.

The Hammers defender pushed for a move in the summer, as he wanted to move north for family reasons.

The centre-back was close to a move to Wolves, so close in fact that the Irons identified Jan Bednarek as a potential replacement.

He eventually joined Aston Villa from Southampton on loan, bringing an end to the prospect of Dawson leaving the club.

Wolves may not reignite their interest, however, given that ex-Spain manager Julen Lopetegui has been installed as their new boss, and they sit rock-bottom of the Premier League table.

While it isn’t going completely swimmingly for the Hammers, one has to think Daws would think twice about joining a club that is propping up the table.

Lopetegui was also schooled in the Spanish football system, and we can’t imagine he would see Dawson as a potential acquisition.

He may well be staying put.
