Declan Rice has made it public what passed between himself and Jesse Lingard when the Irons won their penalty award against Sheffield United.

The Manchester loan signing was seen making it very clear he wanted to take the kick having won it in tyhe first place.

But Captain Dec was forced to disappoint him although to call the words between the pair a woe would be well overstating things.

Declan was simply following boss David Moyes’ orders and was left without any other option as a result.

Thankfully he showed that when the long term penalty taker Mark Noble is unavailable he possesses the nerve and ability to continue the brilliant spot kick taking tradition Nobes has set up down the years.

Lingard could hardly have scored a better one such was the power and direction of the shot which set the hammers on their way.

Explaining what went on between the two of them Decland said: ” Obviously he wanted it as he’d won the pen, but I’m on the pens so I said to him ‘The gaffer and Kev [Nolan] will batter me if I don’t take this and say I’m getting bullied and all sorts and I can’t have that’, so he said ‘All right’.

I don’t want to one of those who goes over and tries to look like the big guy and takes the ball off him. I’m not like that. I’d have been happy for him to take it, but I had to take it and luckily enough I scored.”
