The co chairman believes the former Irons boss can defy his critics by producing an England team we can admire again.
Speaking exclsuively to ClaretandHugh DG said: “Now he has finally got the chance to work with the best players around you could see an entirely different approach.
“He has only ever managed struggling clubs – including ours at the time – but now we could see a very different man at work.”
And he added: “I can’t pick his squad for him but I think he will look hard at Andy because he brings something different to the table. In France all our forwards looked the same as each other and made as little impact as whoever they replaced.
“Sam had the club break our transfer record for him so that tells you where he is with AC. I would like to think that both Mark and Aaron will get their chance if they keep up the standards of last season.
“I’m glad we are staying with an English manager and really do wish Sam every success on behalf of all of us at West Ham.”
