David Gold hailed today’s 3-0 victory at Liverpool as “perhaps the greatest result in all the years I’ve been a Hammer.”

The co chairman – making his way back down the motorway from Merseyside was in joyous mood and speaking exclusively to ClaretandHugh said: “It was historic – the performance and the result is one of the greatest in our history.

“Every single one of the players was heroic. It’s hard to put my feelings into words. I thought I’d been through all the highs and lows of this game but this was something else.”

And he addded: “It takes on such great significance in our last season at the Boleyn. To beat Arsenal and Liverpool away in such a year is incredible.

“I’m thrilled for everybody particularly Slaven – some managers never win at these places so for him to do it twice in four games is wonderful and he will have learned so much from the game today.”

But DG’s deepest joy was for the fans and he said: “Those who were there and everyone who calls themselves a Hammer has been part of one of the most special days in our history.

“So many got on a train this morning making a very long journey with little hope after not seeing our team win at Anfield for over half a century.

“Tonight they are joyous. They deserve it and I’m so delighted I can barely put words to it.”
