Diangana, the Hammers, Slaven – everyone’s a winner

Grady Diangana has been named in the EFL Team of the Week, following a game-changing introduction to the West Brom side on Saturday.

He came off the bench at half-time to make his debut for the Baggies and scored twice in three minutes for Slaven Bilic’s side.

Having first made space for himself to power home from 25 yards into the bottom corner, the attacking midfielder was then quick-off-the-mark to head home an opportunist goal when a deflected shot popped up invitingly for the 21-year-old.

West Brom saw out a 2-1 win which saw them rise to 3rd in the Championship, and Diangana’s efforts were justly rewarded with a place in the EFL Team of the Week.

ClaretandHugh says: Slaven Bilic knew precisely what he was getting when making his move for the Hammers academy product but neither he or the player himself could surely have imagined the lad would have made such an impact in the game at Luton. Slaven has a lot to prove over the next few months and with Grady’s confidence sky high, and the Baggies on the move, who knows where they will both be in nine months time. Just as Josh Cullen had a major impact in Charlton’s rise to the Championship last season, Diang could hopefully do the same for Albion. It seems a great move for both the Hammers and the midfielder who will gain tremendous confidence from regular football and whose game is bound to improve. It also adds value to him and with a clause attached which allows us to recall him in January if needed, everyone’s a winner.
