West Ham central defensive target Shane Duffy has been quick to pour cold water over reports that he necessarily wants to join West Ham.

Reports arose yesterday – following posts on Instagram from his reported best mate Sean Roddy – that he wanted to join the Irons.

But the Brighton defender made sure the move remained a question of conjecture when making it clear on social media that we shouldn’t believe a word of his mate’s words.

Duffy remains a target for Celtic boss Neil Lennon -where he is wanted on a year long loan. David Moyes has targeted him as the central defender he requires as the Hammers look to strengthen at the back – the manager’s priority right now,

Brighton are insisting that Celtic either pay a £2 million loan fee or make the deal permanent along with paying a large proportion of Duffy’s wages.

Duffy made it clear his options were still very much open when posting his response to Roddy’s “he wants the Hammers ” post:The 33 times-capped Irish ace has also been linked with Newcastle and Premier League new boys Leeds United and West Brom.

He previously played for Hammers boss Moyes when both were at Everton
