David Gold has told ClaretandHugh he’s finding it very hard to be objective about what’s happening at Upton Park this season but is starting to believe “we are becoming a decent team.”

And he explained: ” I sat through that match yesterday believing City must score but as we got closer and closer to the final whistle I started to believe but it’s hard when you have had so many disappointments in the past.

Speaking to CandH exclusively he said: “The defence kept a fabulous shape but lost it an one stage and it became very edgy. But we got it back together and I found myself thinking we really were becoming a decent team…by which I mean a very good team!

“This is the same back four as we had last season yet it was a better defensive display than anything we’ve seen for a long time.

“You have to put that down to the manager and the way he is setting them up and improving them on the training pitch.

“Even though James Collins was only on for a few minutes at the end he knew exactly what job he had to do and what was required.”

But the co chairman revealed that it’s the incredible spirit and camaraderie in the squad which is responsible for the amazing performance.

He said: ” I can see it, feel it and touch it. The camaraderie is astonishing. The lads truly get along and the hugging, laughing and encouragement they give each other in the dressing room is brilliant – and once again that’s all down to Slaven.

“I really do have to believe that we have something pretty big going on here. I’m really starting to believe we are becoming a decent team although it is very early days.”
