West Ham have resisted an escape clause being written into Sebastien Haller’s contract with the club which could have seen him leave after his first season.

The German press have insisted that the striker is only set to join the Hammers on the basis of a clause which would allow him to move on if a Champions League club move in on him at the end of the next campaign.

Lawyers representing the player raised the issue during yesterday’s negotiations but it was firmly rejected and will not be in any final contract the club strike with Haller.

The negotiations are among the toughest ever conducted by the club and are being led by co chairman David Sullivan in London.

And  with his medical complete and the deal now well advanced, there is a serious hope that the player will become a Hammer by lunchtime today.

A Hammers insider told ClaretandHugh exclusively by e mail: ” The player’s lawyer tried but it was rejected out of hand by the club. We really are hopeful all will be completed by lunchtime.”
