Exclusive: Hogan deal hits massive obstacle

West Ham have rejected speculation that they are about to land Brentford’s Scott Hogan in a deal which would have amounted to between £10m and £15m.

The media has been suggesting for days that Hogan is all but a Hammers player but ClaretandHugh has been told this morning that a deal is nowhere near.

The club believe the price is over inflated and that the player’s injury record will stop the deal happening – certainly at that price.

Having seen Andy Carroll on the sidelines with injury for so long, the club seems unprepared to take any sort of risk with Hogan who had  serious knee surgery in 2015 which was followed by  setback in training.

At the time it was reported by the BBC: “Brentford striker Scott Hogan has suffered a setback in his recovery from a long-term knee injury and will require further surgery.

The 23-year-old suffered cruciate damage in August  and returned to light training earlier this year.

Hogan injured the same knee in training on Tuesday, and the Bees say the damage is “of a significant nature”.

And this morning – despite heavy speculation that the player is on his way to the London Stadium – a ClaretandHugh source revealed: “They are asking too much money for him given the serious knee surgery he has had to have.”
