Southend United’s Anton Ferdinand received a hostile reception at Millwall yesterday. Before the game Anton said “I’m a West Ham fan and former player who is now with Southend so I’m sure I’ll get a few jeers but I’m looking forward to it because it’s another important match for us, getting a few jeers tends to spur you on but if I’m having a bad time then I know I have the team-mates around me who will be able to dig me out.”

Ferdinand allegedly received a yellow card  after the game finished for making a crossed Hammers sign at the Millwall fans who had given him abuse for the majority of the match which Southend lost 1-0 after going down to ten men early on.

According to Southend fan Joe Steward, Ferdinand made the Hammers sign twice to Millwall fans which enraged them.

One Southend social account said “The Millwall fans were an embarrassment today giving it all the big’un to Ferdinand but hiding behind the advertising boards”
