A final final farewell to the Boleyn in the form of a West Ham Ladies v a Celebrity X1 remains on hold despite a vote that it should go ahead.

The organisers held a poll on the official site – after complaints from a section of fans that the Manchester United game should have been the last.

The poll’s result was almost inconclusive with 52 per cent voting it should take place and 48 per cent saying “No.”

Now- according to the official site – the organisers will look at the votes in full before making a decision given voting was so close.

ClaretandHugh’s readers on our forums were equally split with some believing claiming the ladies should have their moment in the sun.

However, led by top CandH blogger Pete Ellis others were opposed at the plan.

Pete wrote: “Just when the curtain has come down on the Boleyn, we get the announcement that there is to be a game between “West Ham” celebs, and the West Ham ladies team at Upton Park.

It’s been met with disapproval from many, and a shrug of the shoulders by others, but for me, the events of Tuesday should be frozen in time like the city of Pompeii was. Forever captured in its live state for all to remember exactly as it was.

Picture this scenario: “Son, did I ever tell you about the time I attended the last EVER game at the Boleyn?”
“What, the famous 3-2 win over Man United?”
“Er, no son, the Sunday afternoon kick about between some semi famous West Ham fans XI and the West Ham ladies team…”
The last West Ham player to kick a ball there was Antonio on Tuesday night.
Let’s leave it that way, and not try and shoehorn yet another “final chance” to say goodbye.
It ended perfectly, so don’t tarnish it.”
