Former Hammer sacked

Jack Collison, ex-West Ham player, just got the boot as the head coach of Huntsville City Football Club, which is pretty surprising given it’s early in their season. This club, which serves as Nashville SC’s reserve team, ended up 9th in the Eastern Conference last year and 17th out of 27 teams overall. This season, though, they’ve not managed to snag a win in their first four games.

Whilst I can’t claim to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of US football (or should I say soccer), four games into the season seems a little harsh.

Huntsville released a statement saying, “Huntsville City Football Club announced today the departure of Jack Collison as head coach, with Assistant Coach Christophe Berra stepping up as the interim Head Coach for the rest of the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season.”

Collison, who had to hang up his boots early due to an injury, was a promising talent from Wales and is still only 35. Given his likable nature and coaching pedigree, it’s likely we haven’t seen the last of him in the football world.
