Former Hammers manager linked to Cardiff

Former Hammers manager Glenn Roeder is being linked to Cardiff City as director of football just hours after Ravel Morrison joined the club on loan for 90 days.

Roeder now 58,  is thought to have recently recommended Russell Slade for the vacant Cardiff managers job to billionaire owner Tan after attending the last three Cardiff matches.He was on the official Cardiff club table at Derby’s Pride Park on Saturday, having previously been a guest of hnour for games against Norwich and Middlesborough.

Roeder was handed a chance to manage West Ham back in 2001. Roeder’s appointment was opposed by some Hammers supporters, who had expected a bigger name to replace Harry Redknapp.He had a famous dispute with Paolo Di Canio after he substituted Di Canio in a match against West Bromwich Albion.  In 2003, Roeder suffered a brain tumour and was replaced by Trevor Brooking for the final three games of the season. Despite a late rally, West Ham were relegated with a record number of 42 points.  Although Roeder returned to work after his illness, he was sacked by West Ham in August 2003, following a defeat to Rotherham United.
