Former West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini is set to be appointed as the new coach of Real Betis on a two-year contract, report Radio Marca.

Pellegrini has been out of work since being fired from West Ham in December but is now the favourite to be appointed at Betis, following the dismissal of Rubi last week.

Earlier this week it was outlined by both Marca and Diario AS that the former Hammers boss was favourite for the job in Seville.

The fresh report adds that former Monaco and Villarreal sporting director Antonio Cordon will be head up a new-look sporting department at the club.

If Pellegrini does land a managerial job it is likely to cut West Ham’s compensation to the Chilean. It is normal to practise to carry on paying managers wages in the hope they find a new job at which point the contract terminates.

Pellegrini signed a three-year contract with West Ham in May 2018 leaving another year on his contract. Although managers are someones bought out of their contracts clubs often decide it is cheaper to carry on paying their wages until another job comes along.
