Pablo Fornals is the latest player to make it clear that a two-up system made life easier for the rest of the West Ham team.

The victory over Southampton – and the effectiveness of Seb Haller and Michail Antonio within it – has shown that of all positions on the pitch the front running roles are those that can change things dramatically.

And it shows why striker of any consequence are so expensive and so difficult to get hold of  at any time of the year.

Fornals, whilst showing that patience in his own development is starting to pay off, was delighted with the duo’s performance claiming life that their presence made life easier for the wingers and midfielders.

The Hammers are definitely in the market for a striker this winter but in the meantime we can only trust that our current pairing with remain fit and continue to be used in the formation that was so effective at St Mary’s.

Fornals – speaking at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/december/17-december/patience-paying-west-ham-star-pablo-fornals said: “Both Seb and Michail are so strong and it was easy for the wingers and the midfielders to receive good balls because we knew they were running every time or fighting for the rest of the team.

We needed a match like that, for us and for all the people who support us,” he said. “Every time we win or we lose, they are with us.

“Saturday was like the Chelsea game for me, in that I did the pass but it was not easy to score the goal. Seb did the work himself and I’m happy for him.

“It was important for the confidence for the next games and we will try to continue to win these matches.”
