Frank MacAvennie has made it clear that West Ham will need to buy a top striker in the summer given Andy Carroll’s ongoing injury problems.

The Hammers legend is bitterly upset for AC that just as he finds his best form he has fallen foul to injury again in what appears to be an endless cycle of problems.

Speaking exclusively to ClaretandHugh Supermac said: “I’ve been there and know what it’s like trying to come back after these injuries. It’s really difficult and I do think the club will need to invest heavily in a top striker this summer.

Andy has had these problems now for three years. You want to see him get a run of games but his body has taken something of a hammering and it’s hard – very hard.

“At his best he’s still a great player and I had no doubt that he would fit into a Bilic side but the injuries are a problem and so they have to go out and get another top striker into the club.

“Andy still has a part to play but it’s all about staying fit and you need a striker who scores goals and stays injury free.”
