West Ham seeks new head of media – Apply within

West Ham are recruiting for a new ‘Head of Media Relations’ to manage the press and media team next season. The current Hammers Head of Press and Media, Paul Stringer is leaving to join the Premier League in two weeks time after a four year stint with the club while his predecessor, the former West Ham Head of Media, Greg Demetriou joined the FA as Head of Corporate Communications after five years at West Ham when he left in 2012. West Ham are advertising the role on The Guardian’s website with applications closing in two days time on 5th May.

The Role

This is a high profile and challenging role with huge prospects to play a lead role in a flourishing and growing department; the successful individual will work closely with the club’s first team manager and the first team squad to promote the football side of the business, whilst being jointly responsible for managing the press office team and overseeing the club’s content team.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications the Head of Media Relations will be required to provide senior level consultancy to the board, draft club statements on their behalf and oversee all media relations on behalf of the club. You will oversee senior management press appearances, interviews and press conferences briefing players and managers beforehand.

 The Person

The successful candidate will need experience of working in a busy, high pressurised press environment. You will be well versed in dealing with crisis-communications and ideally have experience of working within the professional sports industry. You will be required to demonstrate an extensive media background and current press contacts.
