Gold: ‘Careful what you wish for!’

David Gold appears to have confirmed there’s a split right down the middle of the board in a tweet to his 90,000 followers.

ClaretandHugh has consistently reported that co owners Gold and David Sullivan are at odds over whether to sack Sam Allardyce or not.

And in his tweet to angry supporters who want the manager sacked, Gold told them:  [Be]’ careful what you wish for’

The 77 year old chairman was answering a supporter on social media who said “We need to win trophies, we won’t if Sam stays’

Gold replied ‘Birmingham won a trophy and got relegated. [Be] careful what you wish for’

Another supporter asked “Are you saying as a West Ham fan I shouldn’t wish for trophies?’ Gold replied ‘Of course not but our priority is to become a top 10 club’

ClaretandHugh reported ahead of the meeting on Tuesday at which Allardyce’s future was expected to be discussed that Sullivan and Gold may be in opposite corners and Karren Brady is also believed to lean towards the manager.

And Gold’s public comments on the social media network reinforces the view that he may vote for the manager to stay at the May 23 board meeting.

Sullivan is expected to go the other way and should Sullivan be 100 per cent convinced that Allardyce must go he can over-rule the other directors.

Gold and Sullivan are due to chair the meeting with Brady and non executive directors Andrew Bernhardt and Daniel Harris also attending. Club Solicitor Henri Brandman is also expected to attend.

Sullivan is the majority shareholder with 51.1% so could use his votes if he chooses.
