Gold explains summer signing policy

David Gold has disappointed all those who believe this is going to be a big spending Hammers summer.

As is always the case, various huge names have been linked with the club as potential targets – the reasoning being this time around that we need a marquee signing to kick off life in the Olympic Stadium.

But the arrival of such as Aaron Cresswell, Diafra Sakho, Sam Byram and Michail Antonio is a model the club are obviously keen to continue.

Gold told ClaretandHugh: “We’ve all read the headlines about this player and that player. It’s all very entertaining but we are looking for big value as we always have done.”

“It’s a policy that has served us well and is a tribute to our scouting staff. I would certainly see us going down the same road into the forseeable future.”

And he reinforced the point on Twitter when a follower asked: “Will our summer transfer window be busy from the word go? Or will we be waiting for big names?”

His response read: “We want good players not big names. dg”
