The co chairman – despite not seeing the team collect two more points from a game they dominated for long periods- said: “The fans were incredible. Even when we went one down they raised their levels of support – they are amazing people.
“And in the second half I can’t recall the team getting such support inside the stadium. It was a fabulous night to be a Hammer and I thank them all.
“It was a bitterly cold night but they came out and gave it absolutely everything.”
Gold – like most others – gave his man of the match award to Marko Arnautocich with Arthur Masuaku not too far behind.
He said: “It was a relief to see the team play so well – I think we saw the first green shoots of recovery tonight and you have to put it down to the manager – he decided the tactics and picked a team.
“And he gave the half time team talk before our brilliant fans took over and drove the team on and on. A great night!”
