Gold hits out at goal decision

David Gold has made it clear that unless Darren Randolph decided to “dive into his own net” Manchester United’s Old Trafford equaliser was illegal and should have been ruled out.

The Hammers keeper was clearly nudged and left unable to do anything about Martial’s leveller six minutes from time in Sunday’s quarter final.

And Gold made it clear he was very unhappy with the decision to allow the goal to stand as Randolph lay incapable of helping beore the Reds players ran off celebrating.

Gold said: “It was a foul – plain and simple. The goal should never have stood. I didn’t want a replay and I didn’t want the cash it will generate – I want the Cup.”

Gold – speaking exclusively to ClaretandHugh – admitted though: “At what point in history have we come away from Manchester United feeling so disappointed with a draw.

“It demonstrates again the extraordinary distance we have travelled this season and that’s a consolation but nothing can wipe out the memory of that goal which should never have stood.”
