DG is happy with this summer’s spending

David Gold believes the Irons have had a fine transfer window but suggests comparisons to last summer are not the best way of judging things!

The Hammers may have had their best ‘market’ ever in 2015 ahead of one of the most memorable seasons, with no player proving a failure.

And Gold admits that was probably the best ‘window’ in which he’s been involved since becoming involved in the game as an owner.

Speaking exclusively to ClaretandHugh he said: “I have to be happy with the business we have done this summer but the edge was taken off it by the injury to Ayew who had just became our record signing.”

“Then with the other injuries it threw a bit of a shadow over everything whereas last season we bought so well and got away to a really great start.”

“I think if you look and make the comparison you will find we are probably in the top ten clubs as far as spending is concerned and I think the buying we have done has been sensible and logical.”

And he admitted he was pleased that Pedro Obiang remained on the staff despite much rumour mongering that he was on his way to Italy.

He said: “I have a lot of time for him as a player and believe him to be a very valuable member of the squad.”
