West Ham Academy striker Mipo Odubeko, 17, has been tipped by coaches to be the real deal and a promising prospect to make an early breakthrough to the first team.

West Ham signed the highly-rated young striker Ademipo ‘Mipo’ Odubeko from Manchester United last year offering him a £5,000 per week contract. Odubeko spent his schoolboy years at Manchester United, where he scored 35 goals and netted on his U18 Premier League debut.

The powerful centre forward was born and raised in the Republic of Ireland, for whom he has been capped at U17 international level and won the Victory Shield with Ireland at U16 level.

Mipo played alongside 18-year-old Mason Greenwood and his decision to leave the Red Devils was largely based on lack of first-team opportunities after Greenwood got his chance.

When signing last October, Odubeko told Whufc.com: “I’m a goalscorer, I’m quick, and I work hard for my team,” he said, when asked to describe himself as a player. “I always set high expectations for myself, so I’m looking to score a lot of goals for West Ham this season.

“I’ve been out for a while now, so now I’m just excited to get going – and get scoring.”

It remains to be seen if Odubeko will be given the same chances that Greenwood has but he is certainly a player for the teenager to aspire to!
