Championship side Burton Albion have signed Martin Samuelsen on-loan from West Ham until the end of the season.

Manager Nigel Clough said:  “He plays a variety of forward positions. We nearly got him at the start of last season and have kept an eye on him. He had a successful loan spell out at Peterborough in League One. It didn’t quite work out for him on loan at Blackburn, but he has got himself fit after an illness in the summer and he’s raring to go and will bring something a bit different in the forward positions.”

Clough says Samuelsen’s versatility will also be an asset. “He’s more a midfielder or wide man but he can play up front. He’s 6ft 2 and a skilful player. He’s very comfortable on the ball and his main strength is his creativity. He will go straight into the squad for Saturday. We have brought him in to be involved. He was on the bench last night for West Ham and now he wants to come out and play some football.”

Samuelsen told the Burton club website: “I’m delighted to be here, and I can’t wait to get out playing. I’m an attacking player I like to score and assist goals and do the hard work. It will be a really good learning curve to see this side of the game here and do the graft. Every player wants to play and I’m going to do my best when I get the chance and train hard.”

“All the players seem to be really nice and I know some of them from before, so it has all been good so far.

“Integration is a huge thing as you need to get on with your teammates in order to play well for them. Off the pitch is as important as on the pitch. My name might not be English, but my playing style is. I have learnt a lot from the English game.  have played for all the teams from under 15s to under 21s and got to play for the senior international team last year. It was three friendlies and one World Cup qualifier where I scored. That was part of my dream, not my ultimate goal, but whatever happens now I have scored for my country.”

“The manager asked me if I thought I could come and play in this team and I saw the game and thought this was something I could do. It’s an honest bunch of lads and I want to be part of that.”
