West Ham are understood to have made Alexandre Lacazette the €30m target revealed by co-chairman David Sullivan yesterday.

But morning speculation that Chrstian Benteke will become the English-based striker they are ready to go for seems a little wide of the mark.

Sources close to the club have told ClaretandHugh that Lacazette is and remains the No 1 target and that the Hammers – as revealed by Sullivan – have indeed bid the €30m.

We were told: “They fancy him very strongly and believe they have a real chance of landing him. Lyon are currently considering the bid.”

Benteke however, mentioned in the national press as the other target the Hammers would be going for, looks to be on the fringes of our plans.

ClaretandHugh was told by it’s top source: “Slaven likes him and he’s not out of the frame. He’s on our list but at about No 5 or 6. All Liverpool players are on huge wages and that makes it difficult to buy from them.”
