Hammers charged

West Ham have been charged with failing to control their players against Southampton by the FA.

BBC Sport has reported that the Hammers have been hit with a punishment from the governing body after players surrounded referee Peter Bankes during the game against the Saints.

The Irons were angered after Romain Perraud’s opening goal was allowed to stand.

The defender came onto the ball on the edge of the box and slammed an effort at goal, which was deflected into the bottom corner.

Bankes had appeared to block Jarrod Bowen’s path to the ball, as he looked to be in a position to block the shot, while there was also alleged to be a foul throw from Kyle Walker-Peters in the build-up.

West Ham’s players surrounded Bankes in the aftermath of the goal and the FA has now slapped David Moyes’ side with a charge for failing to ensure its players “conducted themselves in an orderly fashion”.

They have until Monday to reply to the charge.
