Terry Westley’s Development Team are rooted to the bottom of the Barclays Under 21 Premier League Division 2.

The young Hammers have lost over their three opening games and already have a goal difference of -7.  The Hammers youngsters were relegated from Division 1 of the Barclays Under 21 league last season but they have fared equally poorly in their opening games.

The West Ham Academy costs over £4m to run and Terry Westley was bought in by the board to shake it up and rebuilt it from ground up. While the ultimate goal is to create home grown players who come through to the first team to give a financial return on the investment made each year, there is also an expectation they are competitive within the Under 21 leagues too. There was also an expectation they would challenge to get promoted back to the more competitive division one this season.

West Ham were thumped 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium by Arsenal Under 21’s two weeks ago after previously losing to Aston Villa and West Brom 2-1. The youngsters play their next game on Monday 14th September against Blackburn Rovers in Elwood park looking for their first win and their first points.
