Hammers end interest in Defoe after rejection

West Ham United have given up on their pursuit of Jermain Defoe, according to the Telegraph. Sunderland have held firm on their stance that the 34-year-old striker is not for sale, and have been undeterred by the Hammers asking them to name their price.

The Telegraph wrote “West Ham United are considering other transfer targets after failing in a second bid for Jermain Defoe and again being told by Sunderland that he will not be sold this January window.”

Jason Burt in the Telegraph spoke to David Sullivan who they quoted on the Dembele rumour which gives further credence that the the Defoe chase is over for now.

Sky Sports are repeating the same story are reporting “West Ham have given up on signing Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe, Sky sources understand. The Hammers had a £6m bid rejected for their former player last week and were considering a follow-up offer. But Sunderland are understood to have told them that he is not for sale in the current transfer window.”
