West Ham need  to find a quick fix solution to a Roberto problem given he is 99.999 per cent unlikely to ever again don the goalkeeper’s sweater over the 18 months left on his contract.

The club has committed itself to finding a new No 2 but could be stuck with the Spaniard who is currently on around £30k a week or £2 million plus over the last 18 months of his contract.

The club  will be looking to avoid a pay-off in those circumstances and with buyers  thin on the ground,  the club has been left with an unfortunate financial problem.

Given the circumstances – two points from seven games when he was between the sticks and 19 goals conceded – even were a club remotely interested, it certainly would not be at his present pay level.

And in those circumstances Roberto may feel more inclined to pick up his wages until the end of next season rather than negotiate a pay-off.

Director of Football Mario Husillos is the man responsible for sorting out such issues currently and it remains to be seen if he can find a solution.
