West Ham fans turned the Hawthorns into a Sam Allardyce protest arena as the team slid behind to West Bromwich Albion.

The Hammers fans continued the protest that has been bubbling all week across fan websites and hoisted a banner which could be clearly seen around the ground.

It spelt out the message  “Fat Sam Out, Killing WHU”

The mood was deeply ugly throughout the game and one Hammers fan – who chose to remain annonymous reported fighting and scuffles among the West Ham fans.

These were scenes which took the club back to the dark days of the 70s as tempers boiled over in bitter fashion.

Stewards waded into the crowd in an attempt to remove the banner as the atmosphere within the ground became darker and darker.

It hadn’t been helped by the Hammers falling behind early to a goal from  Saido Berahino who produced a left footed shot from close in.

An Albion season ticket holder also told ClaretandHugh: “They have been chanting “F… off Sam Allardyce throughout the game.”

Indeed the chants for the manager’s departure was coming from the majority of the travelling fans and could be clearly heard over television and radio feeds as well as across the Hawthorns.
