Hammers financial worries rise

West Ham are keeping a very close eye on likely government actions as the pandemic worries increase and omicron continues to surge.

The postponement of the match against Norwich City tomorrow robs the club of their excellent chance of turning results around.

The game being called off suggests that the Canaries have suffered several more injuries and/or covid infections since manager Dean Smith gave an update earlier in the week.

But apart from three points being available, the match being called off is a financial blow to the club who miss out on the chance of a last Saturday shopping day at the club store.

That would be worth around £100,000 more than the game being played in midweek after the Christmas period

More importantly of course is that we don’t eventually head into another lockdown which could see clubs playing behind closed doors and in the case of the Hammers facing a loss of between £2m – £2.5 million a game.
