Hammers get veiled warning on target

West Ham’s hopes of landing Bournemouth’s Harry Arter have dimmed a little by manager Eddie Howe’s determination to keep his squad together this winter.

Hammers boss David Moyes believes Arter may be the ball carrying midfielder he desperately needs as he bids to strengthen his unbalanced squad.

But Howe has revealed that he is planning no move into the market place declaring that by keeping his squad together the Cherries can lift themselves away from the lower regions of the table.

The Hammers are reported ready to go in with a £15 million bid for Arter who signed a new deal with his club in the summer so a deal is looking likely to be very difficult.

Howe said: ‘At the moment we are not looking at anything in January. If we can keep the squad together, and pick up results then everything changes.

‘In January, it is a very difficult window to make too many changes in terms of incomings. It is an incredibly expensive market with not too many players to choose from. Ideally we would not be doing too much in that market.’
