David Gold has taken a hefty sideswipe at France boss Didier Deschamps declaring: “You don’t take a player off because he has a quiet 20 minutes – that’s just wrong.

The French boss took he West Ham hero Dimi Payet off in the Euro 2016 Final and saw his team slump to defet even with Cristiano Ronaldo off the field.

DG  had tweeted earlier in the day that the French manager had given the Portuguese their chance by taking the Hammers hero off in the second half.

But in an exclsuive interview with ClaretandHugh he added: ” It’s a bit like taking Lionel Messi off for the same reason -you just don’t do it.”

And Gold  made it clear he’s confident that Payet will remain at West Ham and declared: “He is the greatest player to arrive at this club in many years.

“He has now been acclaimed as one of the best in Europe and that’s a tremendous honour not only for him but also for this club.

“We have gone all the way in making him as happy as we possibly can with a great contract – there have been no offers from anywhere and I believe he will stay here.

“He has an amazing relationship with the manager. The chemistry is perfect. He and his family are settled in London and he is really looking forward to life at the Olympic Stadium.

“He is a very nice man – a perfect gentleman and I believe he has everything here he has ever wished for. I am confident he will stay at this club.”
