Faint hopes among Hammers fans that the club could again attempt to bring Olivier Giroud to the London Stadium look to gave finally been dashed.

The Arsenal striker was a big early target for Slaven Bilic but despite strong advances from ourselves and Marseille the 30 year old is still part of the Gunners set up and was included in the Charity Shield team that yesterday beat Chelsea on penalties at Wembley.

With most believing the Irons need a back up up striker despite Diafra Sakho’s progress, thoughts had again turned to Giroud with Marseille’s interest appearing to recede.

But the striker has now dropped an even heavier hint than previously that future lies with Arsenal despite the arrival of record signing Alexandre Lacazette.

Speaking to French publication SFR Sport Giroud said: “I am an Arsenal player. I have a two-year contract, at least.”
