West Ham want to sign a new left-back in the January transfer window, according to a new report from The London Evening Standard.

The Hammers are in the market for a new central defender as well as a striker as the Irons look to reinforce in their bid to qualify for the Champions League this season.

The injuries sustained by Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna have sharpened the need for a new central defender but the Standard reports that there is also interest in a new left-back.

That has come about due to the injury sustained by Aaron Cresswell.

Arthur Masuaku and Ben Johnson have both deputised in the position in his absence but there is a desire to bring a new specialist left-back into the club.

No names are mentioned in the report but we can see this being accurate, especially given the lack of depth within the squad in the defensive positions.
