Hammers linked with rival PL left-back

West Ham have been linked with a swoop to sign Lucas Digne from Everton in the January transfer window.

Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie reported on Wednesday evening that Newcastle had tabled a bid for Digne, worth £22.5m plus midfielder Sean Longstaff.

However, Digne, who has fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park after a reported falling out with boss Rafa Benitez, is not said to be keen on the move and Downie claims there is also interest from both Chelsea and the Hammers.

This season, the France international has not played since the 4-1 loss to Liverpool at the beginning of December and has not even been included in the matchday squad for subsequent games against Arsenal, Crystal Palace, and Chelsea.

There is no indication that the Hammers have yet formalised their interest with a bid but there is a desire to sign a left-back if one is available after Aaron Cresswell suffered complications to the back injury he sustained against Manchester City.

Digne is a proven Premier League performer, playing 113 times in the league, and he would be a big-name addition in the position, although Newcastle’s bid suggests he would not come cheap.

As a result, we’ll put this one down as being a moderate, especially given that Chelsea are also interested.
