West Ham remain hopeful that they will complete a deal for Carl Jenkinson over the next couple of weeks.

Although Arsenal are continuing to play hardball over loan terms the Hammers believe a fee of around £1.5 million will ultimately be sorted out.

We were told this evening: “We are hopeful of doing the deal. It is still very much on the cards and we believe it is a straightforward situation between ourselves and Sunderland.

“However, we can see no reason why he should want to move to north east where he has no friends given that he knows so many people at Upton Park and is happily settled in London.”

The club is continuing to talk with his advisers but the key is to lower Arsenal’s loan fee as that, plus wages of around £40k a week, would push the deal to close to £4 million for ONE season.

Jenks is on around £32k a week at the Emirates but would be looking to better that at the Boleyn as a regular member of the first team.
