West Ham have twice missed out on signing Jamie Vardy.

It is now well known the club had him as No 1 on their hit list for a long time this summer before missing out when Arsenal came in.

The player eventually stayed at the Foxes although ClaretandHugh can reveal the Irons were also ready with a £25 million offer before being forced to change direction.

Now it seems Sam Allardyce was also keen before  getting the chance to work with the player for the first time with England after reportedly being a long time admirer.

The striker is reported as saying: “‘When I first arrived for the squad, the manager told me a little story of when I was at Fleetwood and their manager was trying to get him to sign me at West Ham.”

The Mail reports: ‘The new England manager told Vardy that Fleetwood’s then manager, Micky Mellon, had recommended him in 2012 but before Allardyce could follow up the suggestion, he had moved to Leicester.’
