West Ham are moving quickly to tie up Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski’s switch to the club given they believed the World Cup could cause some problems if the negotiations were allowed to drag on.

The Hammers expect to announce his arrival formally over the next few days after it became widely understood that the relegated Swans accepted a bid of between £6m-£7 million.

But having paid £20 million for Andre Ayew from the Welsh club, the Hammers were in no mood to meet the opening £9 million asking price Swansea had put on the stopper’s head.

We also moved fast as we feared our attempts to sign him could be complicated if he wins his battle with Wojciech Szczesny to be Poland’s No 1 and impresses in the tournament.

Now the hope is that the deal will be announced before Poland go into action against Senegal in Russia next Tuesday.
