Hammers praised by Blue for defensive master class

West Ham drew the highest possible praise from a former Chelsea hero following this afternoon’s performance at the London Stadium.

David Moyes has always made it clear the recipe for any success has to be based on a firm defence but after a season when goals have been shipped for fun, not many would have backed him to tighten the Irons defence so dramatically.

And it doesn’t get a lot better than to claim your first victory as boss and a CLEAN sheet than against the champions in which every Hammer became a hero.

None of passed over the head of Pat Nevin who made a point of making some very strong points about the display on 5Live.

And they will give huge encouragement to all Irons ahead of games against Arsenal, Stoke, Newcastle, Bournemouth  and West Brom.

Nevin said:”If you want to learn how to defend then watch the DVD of this game and witness the Hammers’ organisation and desire.

“There were moments in this game when I simply wanted to stand up an applaud the way West Ham were defending.”
