Liverpool 3 West Ham 2

By Hugh Southon

West Ham’s fans don’t need me to tell them that they should feel extraordinarily proud of their football team tonight.

The Facts:

O They went one down when Fab should have done much better

O went 2-1 up through a Diop equaliser and a Fornals effort

O saw Fabianski make another awful mistake from Salah when allowing the ball to slide past him

O before we finally fell to a Mane goal nine minutes from time.

But tonight the Hammers turned a corner and produced a display which pushed the Premier League runaway leaders to the limits of their incredible abilities and almost confounded the NetBet Sports odds.

And even after Mane’s effort, the late arrival of Jarrod Bowen almost ensured another equaliser but he could not get quite enough on his dinked effort which rebounded off  the keeper’s head to safety.

Bottom line? Continue in this vein and we will get safe. The team defended superbly and in young right back Jeremy Ngakoa they have unearthed a real find.

But Fabianski will want to forget a game which again contributed to the horrific goalkeeping problems we have suffered this year.

It was horrible to see Salah score from a half hit shot but despite all of that you had to admire the guts, determination and, at time, skilled football of the Irons.

They absolutely battled their guts out from start to finish and even drew some admiration from Gary Neville on Sky – yeah thy were THAT good.

Bit the star of the night was young Jeremy Ngakia  for the Irons with Jamie Carragher claiming he’d never seen a right back have such an effect on this game.

That we come away feeling utterly gutted not to have won and drawn is a triumph given the events of this season and continue like this and relegation shouldn’t be a fear for TOO long.
