Sigurdsson – a Hammers target

The Hammers are ready for a tug of war with Everton for the signature of £25 million-rated Gyfli Sigurdsson.

The Irons have tracked the Swansea midfielder for a long time and will move heaven and earth to get him this summer.

Much depends on whether the Swans are relegated as manager Paul Clement will fight to keep the player – contracted to the club until 2020 – should they remain n the Premier League.

They are currently one place above the drop zone and today visit Sunderland with a last day game against West Brom.

Their chief relegation rivals today meet Palace at Selhurst and finish the campaign with a visit from Tottenham.

Sigurdsson has been in outstanding form during the current campaign with nine Premier League goals and 12 assists in 36 games, despite Swansea’s struggles and Clement said last month that in his opinion Sigurdsson was one of the most underrated players in the Premier League.

He said: “When teams are lower down in the table, the individual players don’t always get that recognition they deserve, but he is a player that’s done really, really well.”
