West Ham remain focused on trying to sign Gabriel Barbosa from Flamengo in this transfer window despite him having the possible chance of joining the Brazilian outfit.

As reported here last night, the 23 year old striker is on loan at the club – beaten 1-0 by Liverpool last night – from Inter .

During his spell with the Brazilian champions he has scored 25 goals in 29 games and although he was quiet in the Club World Cup final last night the Hammers remain keen.

He demonstrated his eye for goal with with one overhead shot – Haller style – that he has a real goal instinct but failed to convince totally over the 120 minutes.

A new report this morning claims that early claims Flamenego had offered £80k a week personal terms are incorrect and that the wage would be closer to half of that.

And with Barbosa apparently keen for a return to Europe, the Hammers could easily beat the terms on offer for a striker whom Inter are reportedly ready to allow to leave for around £19m.

A source told us by e mail:  “We remain interested in the player whilst realising that it is always tricky signing quality players in the the winter window.”
