West Ham will step up their transfer market moves from next week but Chicharito’s departure will be an essential element in their next plans.

A senior source has confirmed to CandH that the Mexican striker is a key departure  in the club’s summer window transfer scenario given his £140k a week wage bill.

The club are hoping to get around £10 million for him although it could be markedly less should – as the player revealed earlier this week – he return to Mexico.

Chicharito explained himself that he and the club had agreed this was the best way forward and that he has agents on the case in his home country and elsewhere.

He is likely to take a pay cut of course  – a decision which if activated will save the club around £6 million in wages and allow them to make a seriously tempting offer to any or two of their prime targets.

First, however, the number one in Manuel Pellegrini’s plans – Maxi Gomez – has to decide that he wants to leave Spain for the London Stadium of course.

Our source said by e mail: “Things should start happening next week when all the players are back and their agents are in communication – until then the balls remain in the air.”
